Music and Design Solutions Limited
Music and Design Solutions Limited was set up in 2005 by media composer and music agent Adrian York and graphic designer Bet Ayer to provide bespoke solutions for corporate, public sector and private clients in commercial graphic design (Bet Ayer), music composition (Adrian York), live music agency (Adrian York), book graphic design (Bet Ayer) and catalogue graphic design (Bet Ayer).
Prize winning graphic designer Bet Ayer started her career as a graphic designer working in New York for American graphic designer Marvin Israel. Bet Ayer then studied graphic design at Bath Academy of Art under the tutelage of a Swiss graphic designer. Within a few years Bet Ayer was deputy head of book design and graphic design at Viking/Penguin in London, UK where she won two prestigious British Book Design and Production Awards for book design and graphic design. After leaving Penguin, graphic designer Bet Ayer started her own design studio Bet Ayer Design building up a strong client base for her work in book design and graphic design. In 2005 with Adrian York, Bet Ayer created Music and Design Solutions in Kew in West London, UK. Bet Ayer believes that book design and graphic design should be invisible and functional.
Adrian York started his career as a performer on piano and keyboards working in the world of jazz and pop. Having studied with composer Jonathan Harvey at Sussex University and jazz piano at the Guildhall, Adrian York joined the jazz influenced pop group Roman Holliday for whom he played piano and keyboards. After the band folded Adrian York worked as a session pianist and keyboard player, jazz pianist, musical director and media composer. In 1999 Adrian York formed Adrian York Musical Services providing live music, jazz bands, pianists, jazz pianists, singers, jazz singers to corporate and private clients in and around London, UK.
In 2005 Adrian York and Bet Ayer created Music and Design Solutions Limited bringing together their expertise into one corporate entity.
Adrian York now divides his time between his work as a media composer, composing music for TV (dramas, daytime, documentaries, advertising) and theatre, running the agency providing live music, jazz bands, pianists, jazz pianists, singers, jazz singers to corporate and private clients, and working as a pianist, musical director, songwriter and producer for artists including Ian Shaw, Barb Jungr and Mari Wilson. Adrian York does not believe in boundaries between musical genres and sees the job of being a composer as being analogous to that of his work as an agent. Both are about determining the needs of the client and then finding a creative response to that need.
